Installation Guide – Ivory 6″x12″ Tumbled Travertine Paver
Important Notes
- This is a natural travertine paver with a tumbled finish, designed for outdoor horizontal use.
- Recommended for dry-set applications over compacted base or wet-set installations with mortar.
- No grout is needed for dry-set unless otherwise desired. Joint filler (e.g., sand or polymeric sand) may be used.
Step 1: Base Preparation (Dry-Set Method)
- Excavate the area to a depth of ~6″–8″.
- Lay 4″–6″ of compacted crushed gravel or road base. Compact thoroughly.
- Add 1″ of bedding sand and screed for a level surface.
Step 2: Layout
- Dry lay pavers in your preferred pattern (running bond, herringbone, basketweave, etc.).
- Maintain consistent spacing (typically 1/8″ to 1/4″).
Step 3: Cutting
- Use a wet saw or masonry saw with a diamond blade suitable for natural stone.
- Wear protective gear during cutting.
Step 4: Edge Restraints (Optional)
- Install paver edge restraints using plastic, metal, or poured concrete to prevent lateral movement.
Step 5: Joint Filling
- Brush polymeric sand or regular joint sand into the joints.
- Compact the pavers and sweep sand into the joints again if needed.
- Mist the surface with water to activate polymeric sand (if used).
Wet-Set Installation (Alternative)
- Use a concrete or mortar bed over an existing slab or base.
- Apply thinset or medium-bed mortar with a 1/2″ notched trowel.
- Back-butter each paver to ensure proper bonding.
Sealing & Maintenance
- Apply a penetrating sealer suitable for travertine to protect against stains and moisture.
- Reapply sealer every 1–2 years depending on exposure and usage.
- Clean with a pH-neutral outdoor stone cleaner. Avoid acidic or abrasive products.
