Installation Guide – Ivory 12″x24″ Tumbled Travertine Paver
Material Overview
- Natural travertine paver with a tumbled finish.
- Designed for horizontal outdoor use: patios, pool decks, walkways, courtyards, and low-traffic driveways.
- Can be installed using dry-set (preferred for patios/pool decks) or wet-set methods (for concrete slabs or vehicle load areas).
Step 1: Surface Preparation (Dry-Set Application)
- Excavate the installation area to a depth of 6″–8″ depending on climate and load requirements.
- Lay 4″–6″ of compacted crushed gravel or road base. Compact in layers using a plate compactor.
- Add 1″ of bedding sand and screed it evenly.
Step 2: Dry Laying the Pavers
- Start laying the travertine pavers in your preferred pattern (e.g., running bond, French pattern, or stack bond).
- Maintain uniform joint spacing (usually 1/8″–1/4″). No grout is required; use polymeric sand or regular joint sand instead.
Step 3: Cutting
- Use a wet saw or angle grinder with a diamond blade approved for natural stone.
- Cut pavers outdoors and wear proper eye and dust protection.
Step 4: Joint Stabilization
- Once all pavers are laid, sweep polymeric sand into joints to stabilize them.
- Compact the surface and apply a second round of sand if needed.
- Lightly mist with water to activate the polymeric sand, allowing it to set and harden.
Alternative: Wet-Set Installation
- Apply mortar on a concrete slab using a 1/2″ notched trowel.
- Back-butter the travertine paver for full adhesion.
- Maintain minimal spacing and clean mortar from joints immediately.
Sealing & Maintenance
- Seal with a penetrating, breathable sealer formulated for travertine. Do not use surface film sealers on tumbled travertine.
- Reapply sealer every 1–2 years for best performance.
- Clean regularly with a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid acidic or harsh chemicals that may etch the surface.
Disclaimer
Travertine is a natural stone featuring surface voids, tonal variations, and a porous structure. These characteristics are inherent to the material. Always perform a mock-up before final installation and follow regional construction codes and climate-based guidelines.
