Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Inspect all pavers before installation. Verify color, caliber, thickness, finish, edge condition, and quantity, and review material from multiple boxes for visual consistency.
- Dry-lay representative pavers to plan the layout, balance perimeter cuts, and establish the desired orientation and visual rhythm.
- Plan joint widths, perimeter clearances, movement joints, transitions, drainage, and edge restraints according to the selected installation system and manufacturer requirements.
- Establish reference lines with a chalk line or laser. For exterior installations, confirm that the planned surface drains away from buildings and other structures as required by the project design.
Step 2: Paver Installation
- Prepare a stable, properly engineered base or substrate suitable for the selected porcelain paver installation system. Confirm support, compaction where applicable, drainage, load requirements, and surface tolerances before setting pavers.
- Use only an installation method and compatible bedding, setting, jointing, or support materials approved for this product and the intended application. Do not assume that sand-set, mortar-set, pedestal, or other systems are interchangeable or approved for every project.
- Provide uniform support beneath each paver and avoid concentrated impact or excessive force during handling and placement.
- Maintain consistent joints appropriate for rectified edges and the selected installation method. Do not install pavers tightly edge to edge.
- Check alignment, elevation, drainage, and joint consistency throughout the installation. Include movement accommodation and perimeter restraint wherever required by the installation design.
Step 3: Cutting
- Use professional cutting equipment and a diamond blade rated for 20 mm porcelain pavers and capable of safely accommodating the 24×48 format.
- Support the full paver during handling and cutting to reduce movement, cracking, and edge chipping.
- Measure and mark each cut carefully, allowing for joint widths, perimeter clearances, and planned movement spaces.
- Use appropriate eye, hearing, hand, and respiratory protection, and control silica-containing dust in accordance with applicable safety requirements.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Use a jointing or grout material specifically compatible with porcelain pavers, the selected joint width, and the approved installation method.
- Follow the setting-material manufacturer’s instructions for curing or readiness before applying jointing material where applicable.
- Provide movement joints as required by the installation design and use compatible flexible sealants where specified. Do not fill designated movement joints with rigid grout.
- Remove excess jointing material and installation residue promptly using cleaning methods approved for the porcelain surface.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean routinely with water, a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain, and non-abrasive tools.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive equipment, and cleaning products that are not approved for porcelain or the installed joint materials.
- Remove construction residue and grout haze according to the recommendations of the setting-material and cleaning-product manufacturers.
- Porcelain generally does not require sealing. Periodically inspect joints, perimeter restraints, drainage paths, and the supporting installation system.
