Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Verify the substrate is clean, dry, sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
- Dry-lay to plan layout, balance cuts, and align patterns; avoid narrow perimeter slivers.
- Blend material from multiple boxes to evenly distribute any shade variation.
- Select joint width consistent with rectified tile and project needs; provide movement joints per TCNA EJ171.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a polymer‑modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and, when needed, for large-format tiles.
- Key mortar into the substrate, comb in one direction, and back-butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
- Set tiles with a slight sliding motion to collapse ridges; achieve coverage per standards for the location (typically 80–95%).
