Important Advisory
Always follow manufacturer instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Confirm substrate suitability, flatness, movement accommodation, and required waterproofing/drainage for the application.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Verify the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within industry tolerances for large-format tile.
- Inspect tiles and blend from multiple boxes to evenly distribute shade and pattern variation.
- Dry-lay to confirm layout, cuts, and grout joint alignment; center the pattern to minimize small perimeter cuts.
- Select a joint width appropriate for rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and the tile’s format and setting conditions.
- Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
- Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges and achieve required bond; target 80–95% coverage per application and location.

Step 3: Cutting

Step 4: Joint Filling
- Choose a grout appropriate for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow manufacturer mixing and cure instructions.
- Pack joints fully, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
- Use flexible sealant at movement joints and changes of plane rather than grout.
- Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured per manufacturer guidance.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner formulated for porcelain tile; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
- Use entry mats and furniture glides to reduce tracked-in grit and scratching.
- Follow grout manufacturer maintenance recommendations; seal cementitious grout if specified.
