Installation Guide – Crash Beige 12×24 Porcelain Tile Polished Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
  • Dry-lay to plan layout, balance cuts, and align grout joints; avoid narrow slivers at perimeters.
  • Blend material from multiple boxes to evenly distribute shade and pattern variation.
  • Select a joint width consistent with rectified tile and project requirements; provide movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and, when applicable, for large-format tiles.
  • Key mortar into the substrate and comb in one direction with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges; target coverage in line with industry standards for the application (higher in wet areas and exteriors).
  • Use a leveling system if needed to help minimize lippage with 12×24 tiles.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or opening to light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade formulated for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts accurately and support the tile fully during cutting to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where exposed for a safe, finished transition.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow manufacturer mixing, application, and cure guidance.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealants at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured as directed.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner approved for porcelain tile; avoid harsh acids or abrasives.
  • Use walk-off mats and felt pads to limit tracked-in grit and potential scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance recommendations; seal cementitious grout if specified by the grout manufacturer.
