Installation Guide – Stratus Oro 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances for the selected tile size (12×24).
  • Dry‑lay to plan layout, balance cuts, and align grout joints; center the pattern to avoid small perimeter pieces.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute any shade or pattern variation evenly.
  • Use spacers and a joint width appropriate for rectified tile; provide movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer‑modified thin‑set mortar approved for porcelain and for the tile size/type.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back‑butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight back‑and‑forth motion to collapse ridges; achieve coverage per industry requirements for the area of use.
  • Consider a tile leveling system to help minimize lippage on larger formats.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to minimize edge chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; mix and apply per manufacturer directions.
  • Pack joints fully, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use flexible sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured per instructions.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH‑neutral cleaner formulated for porcelain tile; avoid harsh acids or abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective glides to limit tracked‑in grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; seal cementitious grout if recommended.
