Installation Guide – Macaubas Oyster 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the product manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, flatness, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for a 12×24 format.
  • Dry-lay to plan layout, balance cuts, and align patterns; center the design to avoid small slivers at perimeters.
  • Blend material from multiple boxes to distribute any shade or pattern variation evenly.
  • Select a joint width appropriate for rectified tile and the layout; provide movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile.
  • Key mortar into the substrate and comb with a suitable notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to improve bond.
  • Set tiles with a slight perpendicular motion to collapse ridges and achieve coverage per ANSI standards for the application.
  • Use tile spacers and, if needed, a leveling system to help minimize lippage on larger formats.
  • Allow mortar to cure per the setting-material manufacturer before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Mark and support tiles carefully to reduce chipping; ease sharp cut edges where exposed.
  • Drill holes using diamond core bits at low speed with adequate cooling.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer instructions for mixing, application, and cure.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and all changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured per manufacturer guidance.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner formulated for porcelain tile; avoid harsh acids or abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and furniture pads to limit tracked grit and point loading.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; seal cementitious grout if recommended.
