Installation Guide – Crash Beige 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Confirm substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify the substrate is clean, dry, sound, and flat within tolerances for the chosen tile size.
  • Plan the layout by dry-fitting tiles to balance cuts and align critical sightlines.
  • Blend material from multiple cartons to distribute any shade/pattern variation evenly.
  • Select a joint width appropriate for rectified tile and the pattern; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to improve contact.
  • Set tiles with a slight perpendicular motion to collapse ridges and achieve the coverage required by ANSI/TCNA for the application and location.
  • Check plane and alignment frequently; use a leveling system when helpful to minimize lippage.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Use a wet saw with a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Support the tile fully, mark cuts carefully, and feed steadily to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout compatible with porcelain and the selected joint width; mix and apply per manufacturer instructions.
  • Pack joints completely with a rubber float, then clean diagonally and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and all changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain tile; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
  • Use walk-off mats and felt pads to limit tracked-in grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; reseal cementitious grout if recommended.
