Installation Guide – Alaska Silver Tumbled 6″x12″ Travertine Paver
Important Notice
This installation guide focuses solely on the paver placement stage. Proper sub-base preparation, drainage, and bedding installation must be completed in advance by experienced professionals to ensure long-term performance.
Step 1: Layout Planning & Dry Fitting
- Dry-lay the pavers prior to installation to review natural color variation, veining, and tumbled edge differences.
- Select a layout pattern that complements the space—running bond, herringbone, and basketweave are especially well-suited for the 6″x12″ format.
- Establish straight reference lines using chalk lines or a laser level to maintain accurate alignment throughout the installation.
Step 2: Setting the Pavers
- Carefully place each 6″x12″ paver onto the prepared bedding layer, following the planned layout.
- Maintain consistent joint spacing between 1/8″ and 1/4″ for proper movement and joint filling.
- Lightly tap pavers into position using a rubber mallet to ensure full contact with the bedding layer.
- Regularly check surface level and edge alignment, adjusting the bedding as needed to prevent lippage.
Step 3: Cutting & Edge Treatment
- Use a wet saw equipped with a diamond blade designed for natural stone to achieve clean, precise cuts.
- Support smaller pavers during cutting to minimize vibration and edge chipping.
- Soften exposed cut edges with a rubbing stone to visually match the tumbled finish.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Fill joints using polymeric sand or a jointing material approved for exterior travertine installations.
- Compact the surface gently and sweep away excess material from the stone surface.
- If polymeric sand is used, lightly mist with water according to the manufacturer’s activation guidelines.
Step 5: Sealing & Ongoing Care
- Once the installation is fully dry, apply a penetrating, breathable sealer formulated for outdoor travertine.
- Reapply sealer every 12–24 months depending on climate, exposure, and foot traffic.
- Routine cleaning should be done using pH-neutral stone cleaners; avoid acidic or abrasive products.
