Installation Guide – Stratus Grigio 12×24 Porcelain Tile Polished Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for a 12×24 tile.
  • Plan the layout by dry-laying tiles, centering the design, and avoiding small perimeter cuts where possible.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to evenly distribute any shade variation.
  • Use spacers to achieve a consistent joint width suitable for rectified tile; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges and achieve proper bond; target coverage per industry guidelines for the application.
  • Use a leveling system if needed to help minimize lippage on larger modules like 12×24.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts carefully, support the tile fully, and feed steadily to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges for exposed transitions as needed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout appropriate for porcelain and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer directions for mixing and cure.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use flexible sealants at movement joints and all changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain; avoid harsh abrasives or acids.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads to minimize tracked-in grit and potential scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; seal cementitious grout if recommended.
