Installation Guide – Salt Stone Ash 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Pressed

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, sound, and flat within industry tolerances for the chosen tile size.
  • Plan the layout by dry-laying tiles, centering the design, and avoiding narrow perimeter cuts.
  • Blend material from multiple boxes to distribute shade variation evenly.
  • Select a grout joint appropriate for pressed-edge tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile and the project conditions (interior/exterior, wall/floor).
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel to achieve full coverage; back-butter as needed.
  • Set tiles with a slight sliding motion to collapse ridges and promote bond; target coverage consistent with location and service (typically 80–95%).
  • Use a leveling system if needed to help control lippage on flatter installations.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade suitable for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to minimize chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow manufacturer directions for mixing and application.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, then clean diagonally and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use flexible sealants at changes of plane and movement joints; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured as specified.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner made for porcelain tile; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads to reduce tracked-in grit and potential scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; seal cementitious grout if recommended.
