Installation Guide – Happy Floors Eva Crystal 12×24 Porcelain Tile Polished Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, flatness, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within industry tolerances for this tile size.
  • Dry-lay to plan layout, balance cuts, and align grout joints with room features.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to evenly distribute any shade or pattern variation.
  • Use spacers appropriate for rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges and achieve proper bond; target coverage per industry requirements based on area and exposure.
  • Consider a leveling system to help minimize lippage with this format.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer recommendations before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw fitted with a premium diamond blade for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer directions for mixing and cure.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • At changes of plane and movement joints, use appropriate sealant rather than grout.
  • For polished surfaces, test grout and cleaning methods first to avoid scratching the finish.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner made for porcelain; avoid acids and harsh abrasives to protect the polished sheen.
  • Use entry mats and felt pads to limit grit and scratching in high-traffic areas.
  • Follow grout manufacturer guidance for maintenance; reseal cementitious grout if recommended.
