Material Notes
- Natural Vanilla marble with warm beige tones and subtle veining.
- Lotus-shaped marble pieces, mesh-mounted on a 10.5″ × 12″ sheet.
- Designed for interior walls, backsplashes, shower walls, and decorative accent applications.
Step 1: Surface Preparation
- Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, flat, and structurally sound.
- Correct surface variations exceeding 1/8″ over 10 feet using a skim coat or leveling compound.
- Install ANSI A118.10-compliant waterproofing in wet areas such as showers.
- Use white thin-set mortar to preserve the natural tone of light vanilla marble.
Step 2: Dry Layout & Planning
- Dry-lay sheets from multiple boxes to balance natural shade variation.
- Establish level reference lines to maintain consistent lotus pattern alignment.
- Trim mesh backing as needed to achieve smooth pattern transitions at edges.
Step 3: Adhesive Application (White Thin-Set)
- Use a white polymer-modified thin-set mortar meeting ANSI A118.4 or A118.15.
- Recommended trowel size: 3/16″ V-notch.
- Key mortar into the substrate, comb evenly, and flatten ridges slightly to avoid telegraphing.
- Apply only as much mortar as can be tiled within 10–15 minutes.
Step 4: Setting the Sheets
- Align sheets carefully along layout lines to maintain consistent grout spacing.
- Press sheets evenly using a rubber float to ensure full mortar contact.
- Stagger sheet seams where possible to prevent visible sheet lines.
- Remove excess thin-set immediately to keep grout joints clean.
Step 5: Cutting & Detailing
- Use a wet saw with a continuous-rim diamond blade for clean cuts.
- Apply painter’s tape along cut lines to minimize chipping.
- Smooth cut edges with a rubbing stone for a refined finish.
Step 6: Grouting
- Allow thin-set to cure for at least 24 hours before grouting.
- Use unsanded grout for joints 1/8″ or smaller.
- Test grout in an inconspicuous area to confirm color compatibility.
- Apply grout diagonally and clean carefully using minimal water.
Step 7: Sealing
- After grout has cured for 72 hours, apply a penetrating stone sealer.
- Reapply sealer periodically, especially in moisture-prone areas.
Maintenance
- Clean with pH-neutral stone cleaners only.
- Avoid acidic, alkaline, or abrasive cleaners that may damage marble.
- Wipe wet surfaces regularly to reduce mineral buildup.
