Installation Guide – X-Rock Black 24×48 2CM Porcelain Paver – Natural
Important Advisory
This guide provides general planning information for the X-Rock Black 24×48 2CM Porcelain Paver. Confirm that the proposed installation method, supporting system, application, climate, and site conditions are approved for this product before work begins. Follow current Happy Floors instructions, applicable local building codes, drainage requirements, and recognized TCNA/ANSI industry standards. Use a qualified professional when project conditions or the selected paving system require specialized design or engineering.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Inspect all pavers before installation and verify the color, caliber, thickness, finish, edge condition, and quantity. Do not install material with visible defects.
- Review material from multiple boxes when planning the layout so the finished installation has a balanced appearance.
- Dry-lay representative pavers to establish the preferred 24×48 layout, plan cuts, and coordinate transitions with adjacent surfaces.
- Establish reference lines and plan joint widths, perimeter clearances, movement accommodation, and transitions according to the selected installation system and manufacturer requirements. Do not place pavers tightly edge to edge.
Step 2: Paver Installation
- Prepare a stable, properly engineered substrate or base suitable for the selected porcelain paver installation system. Confirm support, drainage, compaction where applicable, load requirements, and surface tolerances before setting the pavers.
- Use only a setting or support system specifically approved for this product, the intended application, and the project conditions. Follow the system manufacturer’s requirements for bedding, support, edge restraint, drainage, and jointing.
- For exterior installations, provide drainage away from structures as required by the site design and applicable codes.
- Handle the 24×48 pavers with suitable equipment and adequate support to reduce the risk of cracking, edge damage, or concentrated impact.
- Check alignment, elevation, support, drainage, and joint consistency throughout installation. Provide perimeter restraint and movement accommodation as required by the selected system.
Step 3: Cutting
- Use professional cutting equipment and a diamond blade rated for porcelain and capable of safely accommodating the 24×48 format.
- Support the full paver during handling and cutting to help reduce movement, cracking, and edge chipping.
- Measure and mark each cut carefully, allowing for planned joints, perimeter clearances, transitions, and movement spaces.
- Use appropriate eye, hearing, hand, and respiratory protection, and control silica-containing dust in accordance with applicable safety requirements. Inspect cut pieces before installation and do not place cracked or damaged material in service.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Use jointing materials specifically compatible with porcelain pavers, the selected installation system, the planned joint width, and the project conditions.
- Follow the setting-material or paving-system manufacturer’s instructions for installation sequence, curing, and joint filling.
- Provide movement joints where required by the installation design, and use compatible flexible sealant at designated movement joints rather than rigid grout when specified.
- Remove excess jointing material and installation residue promptly using cleaning methods approved for the porcelain surface.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Remove construction residue and jointing or grout residue according to the recommendations of the relevant material manufacturers.
- For routine care, use water, a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain, and non-abrasive cleaning tools.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive tools, and products not approved for the installed materials.
- Periodically inspect joints, perimeter restraints, drainage paths, and the supporting installation system, particularly in exterior areas.
