Installation Guide – Nextone Dark 24×48 2CM (3/4″) Porcelain Paver – Natural
Important Advisory
This guide provides general information for planning the installation of the Nextone Dark 24×48 2CM (3/4″) Porcelain Paver. Confirm that the selected installation method, supporting structure, substrate, intended use, and project conditions are appropriate for this product. Follow current Happy Floors instructions, applicable local building codes, drainage requirements, and recognized industry standards. Consult a qualified installation professional when project conditions or the selected paving system require specialized design.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Inspect all pavers before installation and verify the color, caliber, thickness, finish, edge condition, and quantity. Do not install material with visible defects.
- Review pavers from multiple boxes and dry-lay representative pieces to plan the layout, balance cuts, and achieve the desired direction and visual distribution.
- Establish reference lines with suitable layout tools. Plan joint widths, perimeter clearances, movement accommodation, transitions, and edge restraints according to the selected installation system and manufacturer requirements.
- For exterior installations, confirm that the base, slope, drainage, and surrounding conditions direct water away from buildings and other structures where required by the project design.
Step 2: Paver Installation
- Prepare a stable, properly engineered base or substrate suitable for the selected porcelain paver installation method. Verify support, compaction where applicable, drainage, load requirements, and surface tolerances before setting pavers.
- Use only an installation method and compatible bedding, setting, or support materials approved for this product and the intended application. Do not assume that sand-set, mortar-set, pedestal, or other systems are interchangeable or approved for every project.
- For an approved sand-set system, follow the system manufacturer’s requirements for base preparation, bedding material, uniform support, edge restraints, drainage, and jointing.
- For an approved mortar-set system, use a compatible exterior-rated setting system and follow the mortar manufacturer’s requirements for substrate preparation, coverage, support, and curing.
- Do not place pavers on an unsuitable, unstable, poorly drained, or inadequately prepared surface. Maintain consistent joints appropriate to the rectified edges and selected installation method; do not install pieces tightly edge to edge unless specifically directed by an approved system design, while still providing required movement accommodation as applicable to the installation system.
Step 3: Cutting
- Use professional cutting equipment and a diamond blade suitable for porcelain and capable of safely handling the 24×48 format.
- Support the full paver during handling and cutting to reduce movement, cracking, and edge chipping. Measure each cut carefully while accounting for joints, perimeter clearances, transitions, and movement spaces.
- Use appropriate eye, hearing, hand, and respiratory protection, and control silica-containing dust in accordance with applicable safety requirements.
- Inspect cut edges and do not place cracked or damaged pieces into service.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Select jointing or grout materials compatible with porcelain pavers, the chosen installation system, the intended joint width, and the project conditions.
- For sand-set installations, follow the approved system manufacturer’s requirements for jointing material, installation, compaction, and cleanup.
- For mortar-set installations, allow setting materials to cure as directed before applying a compatible grout or jointing material.
- Provide movement joints and perimeter joints as required by the installation design. Use compatible flexible sealant where specified, and do not fill designated movement joints with rigid grout or jointing material.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Remove installation residue promptly using cleaning methods recommended by the setting-material and cleaning-product manufacturers.
- Clean routinely with water, a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain, and non-abrasive tools.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive tools, and products not approved for porcelain or the installed jointing materials.
- Periodically inspect exterior joints, perimeter restraints, drainage paths, and the supporting installation system. Address movement, settlement, drainage, or damaged-joint concerns through a qualified professional.
