Installation Guide – Limestone Baseboard Trim Piece (4″x12″ Honed)
Step 1: Surface Preparation – Begin with a Clean Base
- Ensure that the floor and wall surfaces are clean, dry, and structurally sound.
- Complete the installation of the adjacent floor tile before setting the baseboard trim.
- Remove any dust, adhesive residue, or paint flakes along the lower wall section.
Step 2: Dry Layout – Plan for Fit and Flow
- Dry-lay trim pieces to check for color consistency and natural variation.
- Mark a straight horizontal guide line on the wall approximately 4 inches above the floor.
- Trim pieces using a wet saw with a diamond blade to achieve clean, accurate cuts.
Step 3: Adhesive Application – Set with Precision
Recommended Adhesives:
- Laticrete 254 Platinum (white)
- Mapei Ultraflex LFT White or equivalent thin-set mortar
Instructions:
- Apply a layer of thin-set mortar to the back of each trim piece using a margin trowel.
- Back-butter for full contact and press each piece firmly into place along the guideline.
- Use painter’s tape to hold vertical or unsupported pieces while curing (24 hours recommended).
Step 4: Grouting – Complete the Seam
- Allow adhesive to cure fully before grouting (minimum 24 hours).
- Use unsanded grout for narrow joints to avoid scratching the honed surface.
- Wipe excess grout with a damp sponge and buff after 30–45 minutes using a soft cloth.
Step 5: Sealing – Protect Your Limestone
- After grout cures (typically 72 hours), apply a penetrating sealer compatible with honed limestone.
- Reapply sealer periodically depending on traffic and exposure to moisture.
Maintenance Tips
- Clean regularly using a pH-neutral stone cleaner.
- Avoid acidic, bleach-based, or abrasive cleaners that may etch or discolor the surface.
- Dust or wipe gently to maintain the integrity of the honed finish.
Important Note
Limestone is a natural product, and variation in tone and texture is expected. Always inspect and dry-lay pieces before installation. Stonemarket USA is not responsible for installation errors or natural material variations.
